Founded in 2005, the Green Apple Society is a diverse group of donors who make annual gifts of $1,000 or more to the Brookline Education Foundation. Their extraordinary generosity strengthens the Foundation’s ability to support outstanding teaching, innovative curricula, administrative leadership, and major educational initiatives, which enhance the learning experience of all Brookline students.

Members of the Green Apple Society are invited to attend annual Learn Something New Every Day events. In Spring 2005, members were treated to dinner and a lecture and slide show by noted photographer Abe Morell, who spoke about his life as a Cuban immigrant and his recent work using camera obsura. In Fall 2005, celebrated author Tobias Wolff dined with Green Apple Society members, read from his book In Pharaoh’s Army, and spoke with humor and candor about his childhood and young adult years.

In 2006, Green Apple Society members enjoyed a light supper and dialogue about childrearing as an ethical journey with psychologist and author Dr. Richard Weissbourd. The following year, members dined with Simmons professor Sophie Freud (granddaughter of Sigmund), who discussed her book, Living in the Shadow of the Freud Family.

In early October of this year, members will have an opportunity to share an evening with Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David M. Kennedy, who will discuss the state of America in 2008 and the Presidential election.
